At Northern Psychology Group, you can expect to receive best practice solutions for your presenting concerns. Our treatment approaches are evidence-based, meaning they have extensive research supporting their efficacy. Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) is one of the most heavily researched psychological treatments and has been found effective for a wide range of problems. Our clinicians are well trained in the delivery of CBT, as well as other evidence-based therapies such as Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Mindfulness-Based Therapies.

In therapy, you will work one on one with your therapist in a supportive and collaborative way to become more aware of the thoughts, behaviours, and emotional responses that may be contributing to the difficulties you’ve been having. You will then learn new skills and strategies to help you change the problematic patterns that may be keeping you stuck.

Psychological Assessment

Psychological assessments can help you to better understand yourself, identify the factors that are contributing to your psychological symptoms, and, when warranted, are used to diagnose mental health disorders.

Psychologists use a variety of tools when completing a psychological assessment. These can include clinical interviews, standardized tests and questionnaires, observation and medical file reviews. On occasion, and with your permission, a family member or friend may be included in the process to provide additional information from another person’s perspective.

Assessments are an essential first step of therapy and are used for developing an effective plan for treatment. The duration of the interview can vary in length, but a typical psychological assessment will last one to two hours and may be split into more than one session if necessary. Psychological assessments are offered as part of individual therapy but can also be requested as a standalone service.
